Kissimmee Charter Academy (KCA) was established by the City of Kissimmee in an effort to address school overcrowding. The school began operations during the 2000-2001 school year, and continues to provide quality education for over 750 students from Pre-K through eighth grade.

KCA's general operating authority is contained in Section 1002.33, Florida Statutes and operates under a charter of the School Board of Osceola County, Florida. The City created the Charter Advisory Board in 2003, which is comprised of seven members responsible for overseeing the activities of the school and serving as the liaison between the school and the parents of the students. 

The board meets publicly to provide a forum for parents, the community and business people who wish to discuss, make requests, and/or make recommendations on educational, operational, and facility issues related to the school.

The City Manager's Office provides administrative oversight of the management agreement and serves as a liaison between the school management and the City.
