The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for administering, maintaining and updating the City of Kissimmee's Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code, as well as working with other City departments to create and implement planning documents that impact the built environment in the City. It is made up of several major areas of practice, including:
Development Review and Current Planning
Current planning and Development Review staff primarily deal with implementing the City's Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan, specifically as it relates to zoning and regulation of new development and redevelopment. Long Range Planning and Special Projects
Under the direction of the City Commission, planners working in long range planning and special projects work to maintain and implement those projects that have special and lasting significance to the City. To view the projects that the City is currently working on, visit our Special Projects page.
The City's Historic Preservation program is responsible for safeguarding the historic character of the City and maintains two historic districts within Kissimmee; the South Beaumont Historic District and the City's National Register Historic District. Transportation Planning works closely with nearly every area of the Planning Division, as well as multiple other departments of the City to ensure that Kissimmee's roadways, transit systems and other methods of transportation function to serve the needs of residents and those visiting the City.
