Repairs & Restoration Work Begins at Kissimmee Lakefront Park
The City of Kissimmee started repairs and restoration on damages caused by Hurricane Irma to the Lighthouse point, Earthen Breakwater, and the marina boat slips on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Repairs are to be completed in approximately 60 days by Premier Engineering, Inc.
While preliminary assessments and clean-up to damaged areas occurred immediately after Hurricane Irma in September 2017, the City was unable to begin restoration efforts until the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) completed its review of the project’s scope of work and funding request.
The areas currently closed for construction are the lighthouse point from the shoreline of the park and one half of the earthen breakwater. In approximately two weeks, the entire earthen breakwater will be shut down for repairs.
The total cost for repairs is of $386,687.61. The federal share of the costs is 75% that will be paid by FEMA. The City of Kissimmee and the State of Florida will fund the remaining balance in equal share of 12.5%.
