Kissimmee - A Safe City

People consider a variety of factors when searching for the best community to call home. Some perspective home buyers prioritize nearness to shops and restaurants while others desire a quiet neighborhood. It’s common to consider the amenities, school zones, and opportunities that a community offers or the amount of time it would take to drive to work. For most people, one of the most important factors is how safe they feel in their community. Safety changes everything and we’re proud to be one of the safest communities to call home. Here are three ways the City of Kissimmee is one of the safest cities in the State of Florida.

One of the Top Fire Departments in the Nation

The Kissimmee Fire Department continues to maintain an ISO Class 1 rating, a distinction that is given to only 1% of fire departments nationwide. The Insurance Service Office (ISO) is an organization that provides statistical information on risk. It was created to help establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties by providing up-to-date information about a community's fire-protection services. ISO analyzes data on emergency communications, the amount of necessary water flow, equipment, staffing, training, geographic distribution of fire companies, operational considerations, community risk reduction, water supply, and more. Fire departments are given an ISO rating ranging from ten to one with one being the best rating. By KFD receiving a Class 1 rating it means that they ranked exceptionally high on each of these criteria, giving our community the distinction as one of the safest places to live.

A Police Department that is Successfully Preventing Crime

Kissimmee Police Department has been on the forefront of finding effective ways to prevent crime before it happens. Our officers take every opportunity to connect with the community to form relationships with residents through events, programs, and initiatives. They also use data to anticipate where problems could arise before they do and then work within the community to resolve those problems in advance. This preventative and engaging work has led to a double-digit crime reduction in consecutive years. Our Police officers work hard to keep the community safe and the success they’re having can be felt throughout the City.

Storm Safety

Strong storms and hurricanes are a reality in the State of Florida. Although storms cannot be avoided, decades of data indicate that the City of Kissimmee is one of the safest cities in the State when it comes to hurricanes and flooding. When evaluating storms that have been identified by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) based on the number of storm events, number of storm-related deaths, number of storm-related injuries, and property damage, the City of Kissimmee rates as one of the safest cities in the State each hurricane season.
