Three things to do during your SunRail day trip to the City of Kissimmee.

Post Date:07/25/2018 1:50 PM

On Monday, July 30, the SunRail southern service will officially start bringing residents and visitors from across Central Florida to the City of Kissimmee. This will be a quick and exciting way to travel across the region. Now that it will only take a brief train ride to travel to historic downtown Kissimmee from 15 central Florida locations, including downtown Orlando, Winter Park, Sanford, Debary, and Poinciana, we figured you’d want some help planning your trip to our City. Whether you love scenic lake views, local shopping and dining, or a fun way to stay active, we’ve got three things you should do on your SunRail trip to downtown Kissimmee.

 Kissimmee Lakefront Park

As if the breathtaking views along Lake Tohopekaliga weren’t enough, the recent $39 million redevelopment of Kissimmee Lakefront Park makes it a must see on your day trip to downtown Kissimmee. This award-winning park is only a couple blocks away from the SunRail station and is a favorite spot for runners, bird watchers, event planners, photographers, and anyone looking to enjoy amazing scenery and recreation opportunities. Don’t forget to bring the kids to enjoy the two playgrounds, green space to run, and the Florida-themed splash pad. Bring your family, friends, and a picnic basket and enjoy the perfectly relaxing Kissimmee Lakefront Park after your SunRail ride to downtown Kissimmee.

Shopping and Dining in Historic Downtown Kissimmee

What makes our SunRail station unique is that it sits right in the heart of our downtown district. The SunRail southern expansion presents riders with a diversity of options when they step off the train in downtown Kissimmee. As you’re planning your day trip, leave time to explore the historic streets, local shops and restaurants, and natural beauty that our City offers. You won’t have to walk far from the station to discover an array of shops and restaurants. So, whether it’s a lunch trip, day trip, or afternoon commute, make sure to test out the shopping and dining options in historic downtown Kissimmee.

Kissimmee Loop Trail

If biking is more your style, then bring your bike with you on your SunRail trip and head down to the Kissimmee station. The Kissimmee Loop Trail is a six-mile, off-road paved trail that circles around the heart of our community. Bike along canals, tree-lined pathways, forest covered areas, and the John Young Parkway Pedestrian bridge during your visit. This trail is also a great way to travel to the Shingle Creek Regional Park at Steffee Landing for a chance to cool down under the area’s natural forest cover. You can access the Kissimmee Loop Trail by heading west on bike lanes along Neptune Road (just north of the SunRail station). The designated path begins once you cross over Thacker Avenue. Bust out your bike and take on the Kissimmee Loop Trail on your next SunRail trip to the City of Kissimmee.
