Revolutionary Underground Garbage & Recycling System Expands in Downtown Kissimmee
Garbage and recycling are moving underground in the City of Kissimmee with the expansion of our cutting-edge underground garbage and recycling system. The first units were installed behind Kissimmee City Hall in April of 2017, but the beginning of 2018 marks a milestone for this revolutionary approach as six new units are now in use by downtown business owners and patrons. These new units are subtly setup along Pleasant Street, as well as Darlington Avenue, right in front of the newly opened Toho Square Parking Garage.
A Cleaner & Greener City
As the first city in the nation to adopt this system, the City of Kissimmee is leading the way in protecting the historic urban beauty of our community. As the name implies, the main advantage of this system is that it securely holds the garbage or recycling in a contained underground "dumpster" until it is picked up on its scheduled day by the City of Kissimmee Sanitation Division. This approach is not only more aesthetically attractive than a traditional dumpster, but it's also cleaner and environmentally greener. With a closed hatch system that keeps trash from falling out and littering our streets, the underground garbage and recycling system is setting the stage for an even more beautiful City of Kissimmee. The ease of use and convenient locations has also seemed to encourage people to recycle more. In the short time that these underground units have been in operation our Sanitation Division has reported that the recycling units are regularly full and have to be collected twice a week.
As our community continues to grow we're on a mission to keep our City beautiful. So, the next time you're in Downtown Kissimmee and you need to throw something away, take advantage of our unique garbage and recycling system. Let's keep Kissimmee clean together.
