The Kissimmee City Commission relies on Advisory Boards made up of local citizens and business members to make recommendations about a variety of City departments and services.

Below is a list of City Advisory Boards, their requirements, and contact information.

AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD

  • Five members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Three of five members must be City residents
  • Advise staff/City Commission on Airport development

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
The Board of Adjustment, a citizen advisory board appointed by the City Commission, is empowered to determine variances from the terms of the Land Development Code.

  • Seven members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Members must be City residents
  • Hear appeals of Land Development Code Interpretation

BUILDING TRADES & EXAMINING BOARD
The Building Trades & Examining Board is responsible for determining the qualifications of applicants for various types of certificates of competency and contractors licenses; recommend additions, deletions and interpretations of the provisions of the building codes and disseminate written information to all licensed contractors; to hear and decide appeals from the decision of the Building Official, determine if a license or certificate of competency of any contractor should be suspended for any violation of the code; and administers and enforces the provisions of Florida Statutes.

CHARTER SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD

  • Seven members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Must be residents of Osceola County
  • Advise on items pertaining to the Kissimmee Charter Elementary School

CODE ENFORCEMENT BOARD
The Code Enforcement Board is a citizen board appointed by the City Commission empowered to hear and resolve cases brought to them by the Code Enforcement staff.

  • Seven members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Adjudicate allegations of City code violations

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
The Community Redevelopment Agency Board consists of seven board members who implement the Master Redevelopment Plan, a public adopted document, with funds generated from a tax increment.

  • Members must be a resident or engage in business in the CRA district
  • Governing board for downtown redevelopment district

FIRE PENSION BOARD

  • Two members appointed by the City Commission and 3 members chosen by employees for 2-year terms
    Advise on Fire Department employees’ pension program

HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
The Historic Preservation Board is a citizen advisory board appointed by the City Commission, whose responsibility is to assist with the protection, enhancement, and perpetuation of properties of historical merit and the areas in which they are located.

  • Seven members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Members must be City residents
  • Undertake measures relevant to protection, enhancement and perpetuation of properties of historic merit

HOUSING ADVISORY BOARD
The Housing Advisory Board is appointed by the City Commission to review and make recommendations with regard to federally and/or state funded housing and/or redevelopment activities in the City.

  • Seven members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Members must be City residents
  • Promote compliance with Fair Housing Ordinance

PARKS & RECREATION BOARD

  • Nine members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms
  • Members must be City residents
  • Advises Commission on parks development and recreational programs

PLANNING ADVISORY BOARD
The Planning Advisory Board consists of seven voting members appointed by the City Commission whose responsibility is to review and recommend approval or denial of various development applications.

  • Members must be City residents
  • Assure development compliance with City’s Comprehensive Plan

POLICE PENSION BOARD

  • Two members appointed by the City Commission and three members chosen by employees for 2-year terms
  • Advise on management of Police Department employees’ pension program
