January 17, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park
The City of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department will host the 13th annual Sunshine Regional Chili Cook-off on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Kissimmee Lakefront Park. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS). This is the ninth year in which the event will be classified as a regional cook-off.
The competition will offer more than $4,000 in cash/prizes, including $1,000 for the 1st place winner and airfare to attend the World Finals! The Kissimmee winner will compete for a grand prize of $25,000 at the World Finals! All cooking is done on site and more than 40 competitors battled in last year’s event with even more expected to enter in January. The competition is open to the public, but pre-registration is required to be a competitor.
There will also be live entertainment, a beer garden, children activities, food vendors, and more! The public can cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. The public will be allowed to sample all of the chili entries after they have been submitted to the judges.
Cash prizes at the Chili Cook-off will go to the 1st-6th place finishers. There will also be a best tasting SALSA contest and a CHILI VERDE (Green Chili) competition—both offering great prizes. Additionally, there will be prizes for the best decorated booth.
Local dignitaries, experienced chili judges and event sponsors will serve as judges.
The event is sponsored by the City of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department, Kissimmee Utility Authority, WHTQ 96.5 FM, International Chili Society, and the Osceola News Gazette.
