E Oak St Phase I Complete, Phase II to Begin
On Wednesday, February 15, 2017, the eastbound travel lanes of E Oak Street from Lawrence Silas Boulevard to E Vine Street will reopen. The westbound travel lanes of E Oak Street from E Vine Street will open and allow access up to the driveway of Heritage Park Offices. The remaining section of the westbound travel lanes, up to the intersection of Lawrence Silas Boulevard, will open in approximately four to six weeks once final intersection improvements are made. The reopening of this section marks the completion of the first phase for the Oak Street Widening Project.
February 15, 2017, will also mark the beginning of road closures for the second phase of the project. All eastbound and westbound travel lanes will close on E Oak Street between N Main Street and Lawrence Silas Boulevard until the completion of phase two.
The Oak Street widening project is a $9.5 million dollar project geared towards creating a more effective transportation system in the City of Kissimmee. The Oak Street Widening Project will add additional driving lanes, new bicycles lanes, wider sidewalks, bricked crosswalks, a traffic signal at Lawrence Silas Boulevard, and new landscaping. The entire project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.
