Kissimmee Police Participate in Coffee with a Cop

Post Date:06/01/2015
On June 3, 2015, officers from the Kissimmee Police Department and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee while supporting a local business.

Kissimmee Police Department’s first Coffee with a Cop event will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Susan’s Courtside Café located at 18 S. Orlando Avenue in Kissimmee. The event is open to anyone who is interested in attending.

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for the community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work within the City of Kissimmee. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those events are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some citizens may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

“We are excited to participate in the Coffee with a Cop program and encourage our citizens to stop by, ask questions, bring concerns or simply get to know our officers. Interactions like these are the foundation of community partnerships,” said Chief Lee Massie.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
