Kissimmee Police Department's Victim Advocate Unit Looking for Volunteers

The Kissimmee Police Department's Victim Advocate Unit is looking for volunteers.

The Victim Advocate Volunteer position requires a person with sound judgment, superior interpersonal skills, and an independent thinker who requires little to no direct supervision.

The volunteer will assist the Victim Advocate Program Manager to ensure that victims of crimes receive the necessary support services from local organizations as well as assistance services required by Florida State Statutes.

The work involves crisis intervention, case management, personal advocacy, information and referral services, telephone contacts, follow-up contacts, assistance in filing compensation claims, criminal justice support/advocacy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES 

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of social work 
Considerable knowledge of available human services, and cultural differences 
Extensive knowledge of the function of the criminal justice system 
Must be able to operate computers 
Must have good oral and written communication skills 
Must be able to work independently

Interested individuals should complete the Volunteer Application and mail or deliver it to the police department.
